In a dramatic turn of events, gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by unidentified assailants while they were being escorted by police to a medical college here on Saturday night.

A senior police official said three people had been arrested in connection with the incident, which came just two days after Ahmad’s son was shot dead during a police meeting in Jhansi.
The shooting,which took place around 10pm, was caught on video as intermediaries followed the two as they were escorted by police to the hospital for a medical. At least two people posing as members of the media shot Ahmad and his brother at close range and threw them to the ground. The police quickly overpowered the attackers.
